Cool ... but not directly pertaining to temperature although the temperature has been affected

There's a blog title for you ... lol!

When I got up this morning I checked Weather.com & was excited to find the strong storms they predicted for today were still being predicted & now included a chance of tornadoes!  Weirdo that I am, if I can't have a good blizzard then I'll take a good storm.  I've been through my share of strong storms in my lifetime including a hurricane when we lived in Florida.  Fond memories ... truly!  Well, at about 11:45 this morning the security alarm began beeping with a tornado warning.  I immediately looked out the windows, spotted the darkest area of the sky, & then went out into the garage & opened up the garage door to watch Mother Nature in all her glory.  I've never experienced a tornado before although I remember every once in a while hearing about one touching down in a nearby town.  So there I was standing at the open garage door watching the sky getting darker & darker in the west.  The clouds were gathering low & moving quickly.  There was a strange sound which I assumed was the tornado.  I've always heard that a tornado sounds like a train but this sound was more like a continuous whirring sound.  The next thing I knew the town turned on its emergency alert siren.  A little while later the wind picked up, the temperature dropped, & the whirring sound became a whining sound.  Very distinctive!  I guess you could say it sounded like a train.  The sky looked exactly like this but without the funnel.

The tornado appears to have been somewhere at the very end of the street, an area blocked by the neighbor's house & the hill it sits on.  At one point another emergency alert siren, much louder than the one in town, could be heard coming from that direction.  It was an exciting 15 minutes or so!

As I've been writing this post there was another alert issued for the next half hour but it doesn't seem to be amounting to much.  It sure is dark outside though.

Weather has always excited me.  I think my favorite part of Romper Room was when Miss Debbie or whatever her name was would choose a child to help dress Wendy the Weather Girl for the day.

Romper, bomper, stomper, boo.
Tell me, tell me, tell me, do.
Magic Mirror, tell me today,
Did all my friends have fun at play?

Happy times   : )

Well Shirlee, I must say, I would never have had the same reaction as you. I would have freaked a bit and hid in the basement with everyone and the dogs and parakeet. :) Happy stitching!

Like I said my friend - you're a bit twisted even by my standards, but I still love ya. (And the Wizard of Oz is my all-time favorite....) You stay safe - tornadoes aren't anything to mess with. Trust me. It is snowing something fierce here again and I just found out my mother is being taken to the hospital by ambulance again. She was just released yesterday. Gonna have to see if we can plow out enough to get through....Hugs ~ Robin

We made it through a tornado warning just moments ago. Of course Masterchief was standing out in the middle of it! The sirens were heard from Jabez. It's still dark here but I think the worst is over. Bill Meck is doing a good job keeping everyone informed.

Stay safe!

Glad you are safe. I love storms to. My dad and I would sit and watch them frequently. We've been through hurricanes in Hawaii and Chesapeake Va. At least you have days to prepare for them

My hub's best friend was killed saving two kids in an F5 right below our house. Since then he makes me retreat to the basement, but I like to watch as you were. Lightning - different story. Scares the begeezers out of me.

Apparently there are two reactions to tornados. Run for cover and "Oh, cool! Let's watch!" I would be in the first group. : ) I'm so glad you're safe!

Shirlee, we have a lot in common. I love to watch storms too ~ always have camera in tow. When sirens sound ~ I don't head to the basement ~ I go outside!!!
But do stay safe ~ I've seen some of the damage that tornado did on the news.
Prim Blessings

Oh I'd have been hiding! Obviously we don't get anything like this here in the UK but I hate wind! It scares the hell out of me.

Glad you're safe!
When I was a forces brat living in Singapore we used to watch Romper Room dubbed into Malaysian and get very upset because she never saw "Joanne" or "Sarah", it was always Malay names!
