Walmart

I am not a big Walmart fan but I just have to post this kudo to our local store.  Many years ago DMC was available for purchase at every Walmart that had a decent craft department.  It was wonderful to be able to buy DMC for 20-25 cents per skein!  Then for some reason the Walmart where I was living at the time (it was either in Bismarck, ND or Iron Mountain, MI) decided to stop selling it.  The scuttlebutt was that all Walmarts were discontinuing it & it certainly seemed that way as every time we visited another town or moved to a new area the Walmart stores were devoid of DMC.  Anyway, at the time of the Walmart DMC discontinuation the floss went on clearance for 10 cents per skein!  I purchased as much as I could but of course ended up selling it all in my "never gonna stitch again" insanity attack several years back.  Since returning to stitching last summer I have indulged in memories of those "good old days" of being able to buy DMC at Walmart for often half the price they charge for it online or at LNSs.  Well, lo & behold ... John & I had to take a run to Walmart this morning to buy trash bags.  John, of course, had to stop by the DVD section to see if there was anything there he had to bring home & I decided I would saunter through the store at a leisurely pace just to see what was there.  As I was passing by the crafting area I just happened to glance up an aisle & stopped dead in my tracks thinking that I must be hallucinating, but no ... I changed direction walked down that aisle & it was really there!  A DMC display with skeins marked 30 cents!  I looked around ... surely I was being filmed for some kind of hidden camera reality show focusing on Walmart shoppers but there were no cameras anywhere!  Sadly I left my floss list at home so I had no idea which color numbers I still need in my stash but needless to say another trip to Walmart, list in hand, is on the horizon   : )   I just thought I'd pass this information along in case you want to check out your local Walmart & see if they are restocking DMC as well   : )

My 2 walmarts do not carry DMC floss but maybe I will ask the manager. I have been waiting for a 25% off coupon from Michaels and getting my floss then.

Oh, fingers crossed, I always stocked up on my DMC threads each year when we came over to The States and was so disappointed when they stopped stocking them and also materials on the bolt! An average cost here in England for 1 thread is $1.27 ~ ouch! xxx

Ha! Someone should have told me sooner that Walmart discontinued carrying DMC....I avoid Walmart like the plague....but, the other day, I was desperate for a stitch fix and needed DMC - the "town" (read very liberally) has no needle shops, so I pulled up my big girl panties and went THERE....I scoured every aisle and broke down and asked where they might have it hidden.....After explaining WHAT DMC (and floss) was and insisting, no, it wasn't next to the toothpaste, I came to the realization I had worn my big girl panties for naught..... Lucky you.... ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

I was at Walmart the other day and noticed a lot of there fabric was on clearancen ~ I needed some buttons, which their selection wasn't much to talk about ~ they really cut back. In the same isle I too noticed they carried
DMC floss ~ was really surpised.
Happy Mothers Day!

Shirlee you are a lucky girl, our DMC is now almost £1 so thats about 90 cents each. We are so ripped off here. But they won't stop us stitching, I did buy them off a girl once for 28 p but they stopped her from selling them at that price.

Hi

It's great that you can get DMC for this price - I wish our supermarkets stocked it.

Hope you find all the colours on your list!

Yup--my WM that I shop at has opened the craft department again! They have bolts of fabric (which were gone for a while) and DMC for thirty cents also! I was so surprised! Michael's stopped selling DMC but ACMoore has it for thirty nine cents and my LNS has it for twice that or higher! They cannot compete with discount stores! Next time I visit it will be more ready to peruse in depth! Hugs!

Rats! I was just there. They did bring back the craft dept recently. I checked out their fabrics and am still disappointed with them. They are thin and cheap looking to me, not good quality. But DMC! I am a DMC girl all the way! I will return soon and let you know. :) Thanks.

I posted a couple weeks ago about seeing the Walmart here restocking (some) cross stitch supplies and the line a DMC floss. As Wallyhell is the only major brand of department store in my home town, I am once again pacified. I'm glad you get yours back too. My theory is that they looked over their books and realized how much they lost with taking out what they did, such as: layaway, cross stitching and all the other simple pleasures that us lil townfolk thrive on to keep our sanity throughout all the chaos in the world. ;p

The Walmart by my house actually carries fat quarters of batiks fabric too, i'll be excited to check if they brought DMC back also. I used to really like their craft section for basic supplies.
