Can Anyone Help Me With This?

Remember that wonderful little memorial heart the vet sent me after Sophie passed away?  I had it sitting on my hutch for several weeks ... admittedly dusting around it & other things located there rather than moving them ... & this is what I discovered when I finally did lift it up.  I actually had to pry it up, hoping all the while that it wouldn't break.  It didn't, but it left its mark. Whatever the heart is made of, it sort of ate into the finish, but not into the wood itself.  You can't see it from across the room or anything, but it's there.

I immediately contacted a cabinet maker in town but he was unable to help.  I even suggested sanding & staining the entire top of the piece, but he said no.  I thought I had found the answer today.  I needed to do a bit of painting & saw a couple cans of stain/finish in the paint cabinet. Hoping beyond hope that it would work, I applied the stain/finish & left it sit for a while, then wiped it off.  It didn't help one bit.  This is, in fact, how it looks after that process.

Is there anything else I could do to make this heart shape less noticeable, or to get rid of it altogether?

Many thanks for any suggestions you can send my way.

Perhaps a wood marker like Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker would work, Shirlee. You can find them at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware or typically any place that sells paint/stain. Good luck!

Hey Shirlee. Try Olde English polish on it. It comes in several shades to match nearly all wood tones. Also comes in "Light" and "Dark" finish. 'Hope something works for you :)

Bill says the table will need to be stripped and/or sanded and re-stained. Says to use fine sandpaper on those spots...

I was going to suggest one of those furniture touch-up markers similar to what Robin said.
Good luck.

Shirlee, that is so annoying for you - I am afraid that I have no good suggestions for you at this stage. Are you and John over your shock yet?

My first thought was the wood markers as well...I have a pack with three different shades...always try the lightest shade first, as it's easier to add a darker one to the top if needed.

I just Googled! It recommends using equal parts of vinegar & olive oil.
and apply it with a soft cloth while moving with the wood grain. Use another clean, soft cloth to shine it up. Hope this works.

I've heard of using miracle whip/mayonaise to get like a coffee cup ring to disappear, you might give it a try. I'm thinking I saw this idea on Pinterest.

Well, that's annoying. The idea with vinagre and olive oil is not bad. Here in Germany I found a suggestion with olive oil and red wine. Should help for darker wood.
Hope you will find a solution.

I hope one of the suggestions offered helps. I would look in the stain aisle at the home improvement store and see what they have there if none of the suggestions work.
