I have many other things I could write about today other than this company, but I believe it is important to get the word out. The company is Mary Jane's Cross 'N Stitch. They are located in Murphy, Texas. Their website is http://www.maryjanes.com/.
They brag on their website that they have been "Your Mail Order source for Counted Cross Stitch supplies since 1977." I find it extremely hard to believe that this company could have stayed in business for 6 months.
On April 13 of this year, I sent an order to Mary Jane's for some chenille trim & a button. I received an automated "thank you for your order." As of April 27, I had not received my order. I wrote an email asking for the status. No response. On April 30 I once again sent an email asking for the status of my order. Again I received no response. I even tried contacting them twice via their website form. No response.
On May 3, I once again wrote to ask the status of my order, informing them that I had already sent them 2 emails & 2 website form requests for an update without a response. They actually responded to this email 3 days later on May 6. They told me they were waiting for a couple of the trims & the button. They informed me that these items were due to arrive that week & they would ship them to me as soon as they received them.
On May 17 my order had still not arrived. I wrote to Mary Jane's telling them this was ridiculous & I refused to put up with such poor service any longer. I told them to cancel my order.
Imagine my surprise when yesterday, July 19 ... exactly 3 months & 6 days after placing my order, & 2 months & 2 days after telling Mary Jane's to cancel it ... my order arrived.
I wrote to Mary Jane's this morning & told them their "customer service" is beyond laughable. I told them I would keep the order even though they had the nerve to send it to me after I told them to cancel it. I also informed them that I would post my experience with their company on my blog to alert others to how they treat their customers. That is what I'm doing now.
I'm sure my next blog post will be a more fun one than this.

This is so sad to hear. I used to order from them before my long hiatus from stitching, back in the 90's. I was never disappointed and so pleased that I had a way to get supplies from somewhere other than my one LNS (which is no longer in business, unfortunately). Thanks for the warning, just sorry we need one.
Thanks for the post. It is just as important toblog about the not so good companies as to talk about the good ones.
I think it's good that you did this. I wonder if you will hear from them ever again? I am guessing they won't be getting any more business from you. I'm with you in wondering how people like that can stay in business for so long.
Terrible service!
Mail or Telephone Order Rule
By law, a company should ship your order within the time stated in its ads. If no time is promised, the company should ship your order within 30 days after receiving it.
If the company is unable to ship within the promised time, they must give you an “option notice.” This notice gives you the choice of agreeing to the delay or canceling your order and receiving a prompt refund.
Next time - refer them to the FTC website so they can be familiar with online shopping LAWS!
Well! That is really dumb isn't it?! Glad you finally have your stuff. I hope you still need it!!
Ugh, I've had some bad experiences, but yours takes the cake...thanks for the post, Shirlee, and keeping us all safe from these "gonif" companies. Glad you got your items, even though it wasn't your plan.
Hugs
Ma
Sorry your had such issues with your order!
Hope the rest of your weekend is pleasant!

So frustrating! We order because we NEED it and we need it relative to the time we order it! I am dealing with a similar situation currently. Of course, they had no trouble putting the charge on my credit card IMMEDIATELY. I, for one, will no longer order from Stitching Bits N Bobs!
OMG Shirlee I am having the same issue with Mary Janes!! I ordered on May 30th and have emailed and called at least four times with no reply! They used to be good but I think something happened since they moved to Texas. I am extremely unhappy too. I ordered a Bent Creek pattern and a Mirabilia.
Robin,
I agree with stitchingbitsandbobs. They have always charged my credit card immediately! But my order doesn't come to me for a long long time. That is why my online shop of choice is www.123stitch! They are really good about answering your questions quickly - they ship quickly too. If the item is in stock, I almost always have it within a few days of ordering. And they don't charge your credit card until your order ships!!!

You go Girl it is about time we all voice our displeaseur with a company instead of accepting their service below average.
Thank-you for letting us know about this company I surely would not buy from them.
Catherine
This is absolutely something that needs to be done: telling others about bad service as well as good service. I would have been just as upset about the situation as you are. It does not really matter if a company has the best products out there, if no one will order from them. People just do not like doing business with a company that they do not believe cares about it's customers. I myself would rather pay a bit more (if that's the case) to buy from a company that I like. After all, who runs a business and doesn't check for new orders as well as for other communication from customers and potential customers? Really? Having someone make one purchase will not keep any business thriving, although their one order is important: the key is getting that customer to return. Poor customer service definitely will not make them want to return. 'Hope your health is improving :)
Well done, Shirlee!
I had the exact same experience with that company. I ordered a Primitive Needle chart, got the automated we have received your order email, then never heard another word. I actually forgot about the order, but when I remembered it was about a month later. I contacted them at least 3 or 4 times, never received a response. I emailed them telling them to cancel the order, 6 weeks after placing it at this point, and finally got an email stating that the item was no longer available. Their customer service absolutely stinks and I would never order from them again.
Oh I am sorry you received such poor service Shirlee but glad you did receive your order albeit very late x
I appreciate you letting us know. Thank you! I love 123stitch.com. They are wonderful to deal with.
love Annette
Not nice :(
That's telling them. 'Girl power'!
I had the same experience with them too, so I will never order from them again.
Their shipping is too high anyway.
They could've at least informed you if there was going to be a delay.
Marilyn
Wow!! That is absurd. I've never heard of such poor service from any kind of business. I would be doing something else about it.
Linda
Oh Shirlee, that is awful, I used them when I lived in Italy and they mailed to me overseas and never had any problems, but that was before there was internet selling. I am so sorry that you had issues. The only place I had issues so far is Bitsandbobs. I prefer JJS collectables, abcstitchtherapy and Beachcottage, oh and Strawberry Sampler where Catherine from Bramblewood works. I am glad to hear that you did get your order at the very least.
I've not done business with this company, but now I know I never will. Thanks for sharing your experience so we can avoid them.
Ugh. :(
I went through this this winter with a very popular hand-dyed linen company and NEVER AGAIN, I tell ya. Beautiful stuff, but no. Waiting 3 months for an order is never acceptable.
So sorry to hear that you had a bad experience :( Thanks for the warning!
I absolutely love dealing with 123stitch! They've helped me whenever I've had any questions, mail what I've ordered extremely quickly & have the lowest shipping charges I've seen. One time I sent them a check that was actually not enough, but they still sent what I had ordered & included a nice note telling me of my error.
Gosh...what terrible service!
I am so sorry to hear of all the medical and dental problems your having Shirlee. It's pretty sad when you have all that prove and not even the high mucky mucks will help. Hang in there.
Linda
Good to know this! I like 123Stitch and JJ's. I used Stitching Bits and Bobs once, and has a similar experience to yours. Never again! I have a LNS very close, so that helps! Hugs to you my friend!
I'm having this problem right now. To date it has been 3 weeks since I ordered, received the automated reply immediately and thought great! Yea, not so much. Still waiting for my account to be debited, so I sent a message via their site - no response. I waited a few days and then sent an email, got a response after 3 days, very blunt "Will ship tomorrow. You will get a shipping notice" That was it, no pleasantries, nothing!! Surprise, surprise, nothing has happened, not shipping notice, no account debit.
I won't ever by shopping with them again. I buy loads of crafting items and will be giving my business to 123Stitch as their customer service and speed is excellent.
The only reason that I went to MaryJanes in the first place was because the charts that I wanted sold out at 123Stitch.
I'm glad that you finally received your order and I'm even happier that you voiced your opinion at the terrible service from this business!
