Easy Access

It is with much trepidation that I make this announcement today.  I have changed over my blog settings to remove word verification.

I know this is a heated issue for many people, some of whom are very militant about it.  I have clung tightly to word verification since last January or February (whenever it was that Blogger changed the viewing of it or initiated it ... I can't remember which).  I did turn it off back then but I couldn't turn it back on fast enough because within a very short time after disabling it ... within just a few hours ... I was inundated with spam in my email inbox.  A LOT of it.  Spam that I had never received before & spam that I have not received since that day.  I turned it back on & did a blog post regarding what happened to me & I have clung to it tightly ever since.

A while back Blogger decided to change word verification again so that the numbers or characters (sometimes both) are not only extremely blurry but sometimes squished together as well.  You all know what I'm talking about.  I usually don't have a big problem with blogs that have word verification enabled & I will continue to comment on them just as I have been doing from the start.  If it's too difficult to see the number or characters of one set, you can always use the little refresh key & get another set which is usually better. However, with this newer version of word verification I find myself sometimes having to refresh 3 or 4 or more times in order to really see the characters & numbers.  It's gotten ridiculous.

So ... everyone will now have "easy access" to make comments on my posts.  However, if my spam goes out of control like it did the last time I dropped word verification, I will turn it back on again.

I really want to thank my followers who have continued to comment on my posts these past months despite me having word verification.  I really, really, REALLY appreciate you doing that   : )

Yes, I too turned it off awhile ago. It has become so difficult to read, sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 try's but I refuse to give up on the Blogs that I follow. And I must admit, I have not had a spam issue but it really makes me feel stupid.

Hip, hip, hooray! I have had it off for months. I do not allow anonymous comments, that's it. Not too much spam really. But I HATE the word verification. It's not that I can't read it. It's just stupid!!

Hurray!! My problem has been a glitch that means whatever I type Blogger won't accept it. I don't have a problem with the words themselves so much.

Removing the Anon option works for me and lots of others so hopefully there won't be any viagra for sale here.

Now if you could just fix the w key on my keyboard so I don't have to paste every w in that would be even better!

I hated the word verification from the start. Often have to refresh... I removed it from my blog and have had NO spam posts! You can also start comment moderation instead. You would have to approve each comment. Not that hard to do. Works for some! Hugs!

I understand not wanting to see lots of spam in you email. Thankfully I have not had that problem since I started my blog without the word verifcation. I will understand if you do need to put it back on though and will still continue to comment.
Thank you,

Does anyone really fall for these spam posts? "You made a really good point on your last post blah blah blah"? I don't know why the spammers don't just get discouraged and stop wasting their time and everyone else's! You're so right, the word verification has become really hard so I hope removing it doesn't cause you too many headaches! ~Roberta

I was doing really well with my word verification score until they changed. I've flunked quite a few but view it as a challenge! Blogger is changing our dashboards very soon and we will have no choice but to accept the new format.

When I turned mine off I made sure it was set so only people who were logged in could comment *fingers crossed* I've had no problems so far :)

I have noticed that it has been worse lately again when trying to read the letters ~ all scrunched and blurrier ~ thought maybe it was just my aging eyes!

I am almost to the point I can't comment on some of my favorite blogs, that have WV. It is too time consuming, not to mention, I know I right on sometimes and they say I am NOT!lol Thanks for removing yours. I don't have it and have not gotten any spam at all.

It has been getting worse. I turned mine off over a year ago. I got a little spam but nothing serious.
