Dishes Update - What Kind of Christmas/Winter Dishes Do You Have?

I have lots to show you but I haven't taken photos yet & today I'm going to be MIA because I have to travel to Louisville to see a root canal specialist   : (   Turns out I have a nightmarish infection in 2 root canals I had done over 30 years ago.  The specialist who I saw regarding my dentist's pathetic attempts at bridgework freaked out when he saw this on x-ray & ran me upstairs right away to make an appointment with the RC specialist.  The infection has been there for many years apparently & the word "surgery" was mentioned.  I sure hope it doesn't come to that but it doesn't look good   : (   Anyway, today is shot.  Tomorrow is a doctor appointment but that's just over in the next town & it's early in the morning so it won't take up the entire day.

Still no decorating yet except for a few snowman potholders I hung on the side of the fridge in the kitchen.  I hesitate sharing this photo because someone from HGTV might see it & then I'll be inundated with emails asking if I would allow them to feature my home on one of their holiday decorating shows.  I just don't need that kind of pressure right now!  Sorry for the crappy photo ... it was a quickie, spur of the moment thing.

Now why was I writing this post?  Oh yeah, an update on the dishes.
Thanks to the sleuthing of someone (you know who you are ... I'll respond to your comment soon), I have indeed found these dishes, but alas, they are made of tin!  Who would've guessed!  I don't want tin dishes so that ends that.  I did find another set while searching for them that I thought would be a nice runner up but I'm not sure.
These are for sale at Dillard's.  They are made by Noble Excellence & the pattern is Twas the Night Before Christmas.  I'd have to see them in person to determine if they're right for me or not.

Johnson Brothers has made some beautiful sets but I've read that they are made in China now rather than in Great Britain & the quality is very poor   : (

Do you have a set of Christmas/winter dishes?  Please do tell me about them   : )

Christmas specials have been airing on TV for a while now.  Here's one that you Alien fans might have liked but it was never broadcast for some reason.
Best wishes for a happy day   : )

Would have never guessed tin dishes! All quality goes down when made in China....cheaper is not better! Hope your appointment goes well.

And yes, better hope HGTV doesn't see those potholders! They could use some new decorating shows tho!

Have a good day...Judy heartland stitcher

never seen plates like this before, so i'm not much help am I? Root Canal - those are two horrible words aren't they? I prefer the words Spa or Sauna. Looks like you might be in for some work there Shirlee - I shudder in sympathy for you. Hugs, Amanda

Hope your dental appointment sort out the infection. Sounds nasty!!!
Shame about the plate being made of tin!! I always use plain white sets but make sure my table is nicely decorated with colour matching tablecloth, crackers & coloured glasses :)

I hope you feel better soon, hopefully this will clear up fast, makes you wonder why it takes so many doctors to look at something and miss all the signs and then it is so obvious to another.

I've never heard of tin dishes before. I really like the substitutes you found, very close to the ones you like.

Again, you crack me up with your HGTV comments.

Be well my friend

I don't have dishes for the holidays unless you count my cobalt blue wine glass with the snowflakes on it. :o)

I love your potholders! HGTV called me too but I gave them your number in exchange for a years worth of free light bulbs. If you ask me they got off easy...those new twisty things last forever!

I am feeling the need to go to a dentist when I get home. I am NOT looking forward to it. Maybe I can talk him in to knocking me out to get it all done at once. You think he'll throw in a lift to my jowls too?

Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear about the infection! I hope it doesn't come down to you having to have surgery. :P

Love the dishes! I don't have winter dishes, I just bring out my china (Noritake's Limerick pattern, bought it years ago) for Christmas dinner. Otherwise it's our Longaberger and Pfalzgraff dishes.

You are a riot Girlfriend. Well, if HGTV starts pounding on your door, just send them to my place and they'll turn tail and run right off the air.... ;o Shudder on the infection/root canal junk..... That's all I'm gonna say about THAT!!

Christmas dishes??? Ha! We're lucky to have room to store some everyday dishes!! Ok, ok....once, a few years ago, I was tempted by a stupid sale at a very cheap store....and purchased a few on clearance....they are like a plain green stoneware pattern....but guess what? The following year they were not to be found...again...ever...anywhere....so I have a few pieces and that's it....and those are lurking in some forgotten box in the netherlands of the basement b/c I have no place to put them upstairs. Smart shopper, hey?

Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Yuk on your infection!!! Certainly hope you don't need surgery. I should have taken wagers on whether you would find those dishes, because I KNEW you would!!!!! I have Waechtersbach(made in Germanay) and love them. Plain red with green Christmas tree. I have service for 12 plus glasses and serving pieces. But know what? I didn't get them out this year! So sad. I didn't want to do too much, so that is that. I usually have them out the week before Thanksgiving and enjoy them. I too. love the red transfer ware fro Johnson Bros, but would want the ones made in England.

I hope all fan out well with your dental appointment.
